…but it seemed to be going backwards… by George

Excitement filled the atmosphere. The 4x100 metres relay was about to begin. Three....two....one... BANG! The smoke from the starter’s gun gradually faded away. Sprinters from all different countries began their short but exhausting race. Suddenly everything came to a halt. The competitors that had been sprinting rapidly just froze. Time was no longer going forwards but it seemed to be going backwards. The stadium sluggishly drifted away from the runners, who looked like statues now. The competitors had an out of body experience where they could see themselves growing younger. They travelled back to happy times of being a child.

  1. George, this is an excellent interpretation of the prompt. I especially like your use of the adverb ‘sluggishly’ to indicate how slowly time was receding.
